Why Do Wrists Sometimes Turn Green?
Many people wear copper bracelets for their alleged health benefits, but after wearing one for a while, the skin beneath the bracelet sometimes turns green.

This color change is a normal chemical reaction caused by prolonged contact between the skin and copper, primarily driven by oxidation: pure copper reacts with oxygen (O₂) in the air, moisture (H₂O) in sweat secreted by the skin, and salts (such as sodium chloride, NaCl), forming a green compound called "basic copper carbonate" (Cu₂(OH)₂CO₃). This is a stable, natural substance that is non-toxic and harmless to the human body—there is no need to worry about health risks.

The degree of skin discoloration varies from person to person: on one hand, different people have different pH levels and sweat secretion amounts—those with more acidic or excessive sweat may experience a more obvious reaction with copper, leading to more prominent greening. On the other hand, wearing frequency and environment also play a role (e.g., heavy sweating during exercise can accelerate the reaction). However, this green mark requires no special treatment—once you stop wearing the bracelet, the compound on the skin surface will gradually fade with daily cleaning.

If you want to reduce greening, you can also try these tips: ensure your wrist skin is dry before wearing the bracelet; remove the bracelet before exercising, bathing, or doing housework to avoid prolonged contact with sweat and chemicals; regularly wipe the bracelet surface with warm water and a soft cloth to remove residual sweat and dirt; if you have sensitive skin, apply a small amount of unscented lotion to your wrist first to reduce direct contact between copper and skin.

Copper Jewelry Maintenance Details

•Reducing Skin Reaction: If the skin turns green frequently after wearing, gently scrub the inner side of the bracelet (the side in contact with the skin) with a soft brush (e.g., an old toothbrush) dipped in a small amount of baking soda solution (1:10 baking soda to water) once a week to remove residual copper compounds and reduce the probability of subsequent skin reactions.

•Pure Copper Maintenance: When the plating is completely worn, the pure copper surface may turn slightly black due to oxidation. Wipe it gently with a soft cloth dipped in a small amount of white vinegar (or specialized copper polish) to restore the pure copper luster (note: rinse thoroughly with clean water after wiping and dry with a dry cloth to avoid corrosion from residual white vinegar).

•Sensitive Skin Note: People with sensitive skin are advised to first test the bracelet on a small area (e.g., behind the ear or inner wrist) for 1-2 hours to confirm no allergic reactions (such as redness or itching) before wearing it normally; for daily wear, choose styles with "passivated inner walls" (reduces copper ion release and skin irritation).

Material Testing Instructions

•Safety Testing: For "skin contact safety", the bracelet additionally passes the QB/T 2062-2020 "Precious Metal Jewelry - Limits of Harmful Elements" standard test, in which the content of harmful metals such as lead, cadmium, and nickel is ≤0.001% (far below the national standard limit), ensuring no health risks from long-term skin contact.

•Component Stability Testing:Through "accelerated aging testing" (simulating 1 year of wearing environment: temperature 25-35℃, humidity 40%-60%, sweat immersion cycle), the test results show that the pure copper material has stable components and no excessive precipitation of metal ions, further verifying that "the green compound is only a surface reaction and does not affect material safety".
